Cordex Terminology API: clinical and reference dataOne API for the codes, places and reference data your software depends on.
Cordex Terminology API serves approved, versioned reference data in five areas: clinical, geography, people, commerce and science. That covers medical codes, Australian addresses, countries and time zones, languages and occupations, currencies and units of measure, and a taxonomy of every kingdom of life. Use REST, OData v4 or FHIR R4, without hosting any of it yourself.
Not just health data.
Buy only the area you need, or take Enterprise for all five. Every area gets the same approved releases, release pinning, change feed and OData v4 access.

USD 2,280 / yearEnterprise includes every area, and any area added later, for USD 11,880 a year. That is less than the five area plans bought separately.
Using Dataverse? Cordex-Reference is a free solution that shows these datasets as 42 read-only virtual tables, using your plan's key.
Trusted releases, every call.
Approved releases only
Every new release is loaded, checked and compared with the one in service, then approved by a person before it goes live. Your software never meets an untested release.
Always know what answered
Every response names the release it came from. You can pin a call to an earlier release, and follow a change feed to keep a local copy in step.
Fast and simple
REST and JSON, OData v4 for Dynamics 365, Dataverse and Power BI, and a FHIR R4 terminology server. Full-text search, code lookup, parents and children, with typical responses well under half a second.
Secure by design
Every call passes through Azure Front Door, a web application firewall and API Management, and is authenticated by licence key only, or self-service OAuth. Licences, plans and rate limits are enforced on every call.
New in October 2026
New datasets in Science, Commerce and Clinical, and a wider FHIR terminology server. Everything works through the same REST, OData v4 and FHIR R4 interfaces and the same approved-release process.
Science: global taxonomy
- ✓About 3.47 million named concepts from the GBIF Backbone, across all 9 kingdoms: animals, plants, fungi, chromists, protozoa, bacteria, archaea, viruses and unplaced names
- ✓Scientific names and English common names, with synonyms and the full hierarchy from kingdom to species, across kingdoms
- ✓Covers pathogens: bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and parasites
- ✓Filter to fauna, flora or any kingdom:
?kingdom=Animaliain REST or$filter=Kingdom eq 'Plantae'in OData
Commerce and Clinical: UCUM
- ✓The Unified Code for Units of Measure, the unit codes LOINC uses for lab results
Clinical: labs, immunisation and surveillance
- ✓LOINC with all six axes on every code
- ✓Every CDC immunisation code set (CVX, MVX, NDC, CPT to CVX, vaccine groups, VIS), with VIS barcode lookup
- ✓ICD-10-CM, updated each US fiscal year
- ✓CDC NNDSS event codes and the Australian National Notifiable Disease List
FHIR R4: wider ValueSet $expand
- ✓$expand now works on ICD-11 and the taxonomy as well as SNOMED CT ECL, for example every bird (Aves) and its descendants
Every dataset, by plan.
Each plan gets new datasets in its area as they’re approved. Enterprise includes every dataset, including future areas.
From source to your software.
We load
Scheduled loaders fetch each new release from its authoritative source, such as NCTS, WHO, Geoscape, CDC, Regenstrief, the ABS, Unicode and GBIF.
We check
Every release is validated and compared with the current one: what was added, changed and retired.
We approve
A person reviews the changes and approves the release.
You call
The API switches to the new release within minutes. Earlier releases stay available if you pin to them.
Plans and datasets
30 days free on any plan, with the same features and limits as the paid plan. No card needed. Prices in USD per year. Australian customers add 10% GST.

Common questions.
Do I need my own SNOMED CT licence?+
SNOMED CT-AU is licensed in Australia through the National Clinical Terminology Service (NCTS), free of charge. Customers outside Australia: contact us about SNOMED CT licensing in your country. See the Terminology terms.
How quickly do new releases appear?+
We check for new releases on a schedule, usually weekly. A release goes live once it’s been reviewed and approved.
Can I stay on an older release?+
Yes. Plans with release pinning can request any applied release by its release code.
Do you provide Australia Post delivery point identifiers (DPIDs)?+
No. Addresses come from Geoscape G-NAF Core, which uses its own persistent address identifier.
Where is the service hosted?+
On Microsoft Azure, in the Australia East region.
Which CDC code sets are included?+
Every CDC immunisation code set: CVX, MVX, vaccine groups, CVX to VIS, VIS editions and document links, product names, CPT to CVX and the four vaccine NDC tables. Also ICD-10-CM from the National Center for Health Statistics, and the NNDSS event codes and notifiable condition history. All of them are in the Clinical plan and in Enterprise.
Is LOINC included, and how is it licensed?+
Yes. LOINC is in the Clinical plan and in Enterprise. It is free to use under the LOINC licence from Regenstrief Institute. We serve every LOINC Table field under its LOINC name with its LOINC content, as the licence requires, and add the Cordex columns (code, display, status, release) beside them. Some LOINC codes contain third-party content, such as survey instruments. Those codes carry the owner's notice in the EXTERNAL_COPYRIGHT_NOTICE field, and use of that content is subject to the owner's terms.
How is CPT licensed?+
CPT codes appear only in the CDC CPT to CVX crosswalk. We supply them under our licence from the American Medical Association. CPT five-digit codes, nomenclature and other data are Copyright, American Medical Association. All Rights Reserved. Contact us about the CPT terms for your use.
How current is the Australian National Notifiable Disease List?+
We load the compilation of the National Health Security (National Notifiable Disease List) Instrument 2018 that is in force on the Federal Register of Legislation. A new compilation becomes a new release after review, the same as every other dataset. Time-limited listings carry their end date. For example, Andes virus infection is listed until the end of 22 November 2026.
Are these datasets endorsed by CDC or the Australian Government?+
No. We redistribute public sources as published and name the source in every response. Using them does not imply endorsement by CDC, ATSDR, HHS, the United States Government or the Commonwealth of Australia.
